In May 2014, the SAS Programme commissioned the Scottish Medical Education Research Consortium (SMERC), led by Professor Jennifer Cleland and her team, to undertake an evaluation study and report on the effectiveness and value brought by the SAS Programme in its first full year of operation.
In particular, the Programme wanted to identify and share the benefits and impact on the individuals/applicants, the service they work in and the patients they care for, as a result of undertaking development opportunities funded by the SAS Programme.
A number of SAS applicants, their Clinical Directors and Line Managers and some of the SAS Programme Education Advisers were interviewed for the purposes of this report.
