Courses

IM1 - Boot camp

Between August and January of their IM1 year, all trainees are invited to attend a three-day medical boot camp hosted by the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. The course is residential and involves three days of intensive educational activity provided by a skilled faculty from all regions of Scotland. Some pre-course preparation is required to facilitate ‘sign off’ of core procedural skills to the level required by the IMT Stage 1 curriculum in IM1. Trainees are allocated to a boot camp by their TPD, in consultation with their local rota organiser, and contacted directly with the dates.

IM2 - Skills day

Building on the learning from boot camp in IM1, trainees are invited to attend a skills day during IM2.  For ease of access, the skills day is delivered in two locations: Glasgow (for West and South East trainees) and Aberdeen (for North and East trainees).  The day focuses on a series of complex treatments and procedural skills listed in the Curriculum for Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training.  Once again, some pre-course preparation is required to facilitate ‘sign off’ of core procedural skills.  Skills days run between September and February of the IM2 year, and the day is delivered by expert faculty from all regions of Scotland.

IM3 - Registrar ready

In IM3, all trainees in structural posts (i.e. following direct progression from IM1 & 2) are invited to return to the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, to undertake a ‘registrar ready’ course.  This course integrates technical and non-technical aspects, focusing on patients with complex medical presentations as well as the specific challenges of the ‘medical registrar’ role.  The courses run between February and May of the IM3 year, and each course involves two days of intensive educational activity, once again provided by skilled faculty from all regions of Scotland.  As in previous years, participants are required to complete some pre-course preparation to facilitate ‘sign off’ of core procedural skills.

The full training programme and booking information is available on the IMT Training Zone on Turas.
