A new curriculum for Emergency Medicine was introduced in August 2021. This brought with it a new emphasis for intermediate and higher specialty trainees on SLO 6: Proficiently deliver key procedural skills needed in Emergency Medicine. The Emergency Medicine simulation strategy for Scotland focusses on supporting trainees to achieve these competencies. This strategy sits alongside existing simulation and resuscitation courses and builds on the ACCS simulation programme.
Five new bespoke courses will be piloted and rolled out over 2023-2025. Going forward, we aim to ensure all Emergency Medicine Trainees can attend each course at some point during intermediate and higher training. Delivery of these courses will be multi-modal and will incorporate workshops, immersive simulation and innovative sim-based mastery learning. The simulation strategy aim is to ensure all trainees meet SLO6 sign off requirements and support development of other clinical and non-technical competencies across the SLOs.
