Joanne is an acute medicine registrar in the West of Scotland and medical education researcher striving to improve medical training at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her research has emphasised the development of non-technical skills, using simulation-based strategies to explore behaviour and team performance and professional identity development.
In 2023, she won the NHS Education for Scotland Medical Directorate Award for Scholarship and Research in Medical Education. In 2024, she completed a PhD in medical education at the University of Dundee in professional identity development during transitions in medical training. She is an honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Glasgow and continues to research key aspects of professional identity including clinical reasoning and decision making.
