AMP Update Training – CAMHS

Aim

The aim of the workshop is to consider how the Mental Health Act and other related legislation, should be applied in support of the care and treatment of children and adolescents living in Scotland, with mental disorder.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this course, participants will…

- Identify the main areas of mental health law where requirements for children or young people differ from adults

- Apply these legal criteria to real situations

- Explain how to deal with more complex cases, unusual situations and when different pieces of legislation interact

- Apply both the requirements of the law and your professional judgement when dealing with complex or unusual cases

Pre-course work

One of the key learning opportunities in this course will be from the discussion of challenging cases.  As part of your joining instructions, you will receive a template that we will ask you to complete and bring with you on the day where you will detail a complex case that you have recently been involved in.  It is essential that you bring this on the day.

Target audience

This course is aimed at existing AMPs who are required to complete Update Training every five years.

This CAMHS course is aimed specifically for those who specialise in CAMHS psychiatry and we strongly advise that any CAMHS specialists should attend this course in order to maintain their AMP status.

Due to limited availability, we strongly recommend that existing AMPs complete their training well in advance of the anniversary of their AMP status.

Cost

There is a charge of £250 for the AMP Update training - CAMHS course.  This must be paid on booking by credit or debit card only.

Cancellations and refunds: Please note that full automated refunds can be generated by the Portal for cancellations up to 4 weeks prior to the course.  Within 4 weeks of the course dates, refunds may be given in exceptional circumstances only.  NES reserves the right to remove anyone from a course, without the offer of a refund, if they are unable to fully participate.  To be eligible for a certificate, full attendance is required.  We request that delegates should not be on call during the course.  Failure to fully participate on the course may result in you being removed from the course.

Register with your local health board

Completion of training does not mean you are automatically approved under the Act.  You still need to be placed on a Health Board AMP list.  Your local AMP list administrator will need to have sight of your certificate so they can maintain your place on the list.  It is your responsibility to ensure you are on an AMP list.

AMP status is transferable across Health Boards.  If an AMP is listed on a Board list then they are able to work in any Board area.  They are not required to be on multiple Board lists.

You can find details on the AMP list administrators for each Health Board here.
