Training for Panel Members

All members of an ARCP panel, including the lay representative and external advisor, must be trained for their role (Gold Guide 4.78).  Training should be kept up to date. Equality & Diversity training must be completed at least every three years and review of Deanery ARCP training materials is required annually (see slides available below). Failure to confirm you hold up to date training in advance of the desktop review will result in you being unable to participate as an ARCP panel member.

All panel members must complete ARCP training.  You are invited to complete the e-learning modules listed below which are available on the Educator Hub, available via e-Learning for Healthcare.  The Educator Hub is a web-based multi-professional e-learning resource for clinical educators. It brings together video-based modules from HEE Kent, Surrey, Sussex’s etft platform together with the more academic ones from London’s Multiprofessional Faculty Development site.

There are three short modules available:

1) ARCP: Introduction

2) ARCP: Foundation

3) ARCP: Specialty and GP

A training slide set has also been prepared by the Deanery and can be viewed here.

Before completing the modules, please note:

  • These have been developed for training in England and therefore some content is not directly applicable to processes used in Scotland, e.g. ARCP and Revalidation – the system is different in Scotland and does not require the enhanced Form R therefore this section can be ignored.  Scotland uses an on-line system (Scottish On-line Appraisal Resource – SOAR) which covers the same areas and is completed by the trainee as part of the required evidence for their ARCP.
  • An outcome 5 is referred to as an 'unsatisfactory' outcome in the modules, the Scotland Deanery would not share this view and promotes outcome 5s as 'holding' or 'paused' outcomes.
  • The guidance in relation to duration of extension periods has been updated in the Gold Guide (v9), since these training modules were created. Please refer to the Gold Guide (section 4.108) for up-to-date details.
