Welcome to the School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a diverse hospital-based specialty encompassing aspects of medicine, surgery and childbirth. It is this immense variety that is one of the major attractions to our speciality.

The curriculum is set by the RCOG and the delivery and assessment of training is overseen by NES. The curriculum offers broad based training in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the first five years with opportunity to develop special interests and skills in the final 2 years of training.

Within NES the Postgraduate School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has several aims including

  • Organising and managing PG medical education in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to ensure delivery of high quality training
  • Producing fully trained, competent professionals who are confident and passionate about providing excellent care
  • Supporting trainees and educators
  • Supporting Less Than Full Time (LTFT) working
  • Supporting trainees choosing academic and sub specialist career pathways

There are 179 training posts across Scotland with training delivered in 4 regions in hospital settings the length and breadth of the country. Details about the training in each region, sub specialty and special interest posts and academic training can be found in the following pages. In those pages you will also find more about the people passionate about delivering training and find links to useful resources

This website aims to provide current and prospective trainees with an overview of the training and related opportunities on offer as well as regular updates, links to courses and to teaching and training sessions. The website is a fluid document and we welcome any feedback and suggestions of ways to make it more useful.

We look forward to meeting you!

What do our Trainees say?

A brilliant, supportive place to work with a wealth of experience and opportunities for all.

Andy ST4

Scotland is a wonderful place to live and train in O+G. You really get to know everyone in your region and they are incredibly supportive of trainees.
