Special Interest Training

In the later years of the O+G training programme, trainees undertake further special interest training or subspecialty training in preparation for taking up consultant posts.

Since the change in curriculum in August 2024, a trainee must complete all three stages of training of the core curriculum in O+G as well as two Special Interest Training  Modules (SITMs) or Subspecialty Training.

Previously, Advanced Training Skills Modules (ATSMs) were available to complete the requirement for CCT. The entry to ATSMs is now closed. Those trainees already registered for ATSMs may complete these to gain CCT and are not required to switch to SITMs (although may choose to do so). Any queries relating to ATSM or change of curriculum can be made to the relevant SITM Director.

In addition, there are three available Special Interest Professional Modules available throughout training from ST1-ST7. These are in Clinical Research, Medical Education and Leadership and Management. Registration is via SITM Directors.
