Call for Abstracts: AoME Summer Meeting 2022 - Re-Energising Medical Education: New Era, New Ways of Teaching and Learning

Course/Event Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2022

Course/Event Duration: 1 Day

Course/Event Description

The Academy of Medical Educators’ 2022 Summer Academic Meeting takes place at The Albert Hall in Nottingham on Wednesday 15 June 2022.

Themed ‘Re-Energising Medical Education: New Era, New Ways of Teaching and Learning’, we are inviting participants to share creative and adaptive approaches in medical education developed during and since the COVID-19 pandemic. At our September 2021 conference Learning together for Patient Care; Fall Back; Spring Forward, we hosted a panel discussion that considered the question Backlog of Education: whose responsibility? in the context of clinicians and managers working for a pressurised service who are also trying to cope as trainers and developers of new educators. During this it became clear that many of us have developed new ideas and innovations to healthcare education – new ways of learning and new ways of teaching. The Summer conference presents an opportunity to share lessons learnt and best practice. Together we can put the pandemic behind us and move into a new era of medical education, adapting to a new normal and breathing new life into Medical Education.

Abstract submission is now open and we are particularly interested in innovations in medical education, but welcome submissions of all interests for posters, oral presentations and workshops.

Themes include:

  • Playful learning and gamification
  • Enjoying teaching with patients present
  • Developing medical education careers
  • Simulation and technology enhanced learning
  • Confidence, resilience and wellbeing
  • Student showcase

The Academy of Medical Educators’ Summer conference is one of the best opportunities for educators across the health professions to come together to share good practice and the latest innovations in healthcare education, as well as for networking, academic collaboration, and professional development.

The Academy of Medical Educators (AoME), established in 2006, is a charitable organisation which exists to advance medical education for the benefit of the public. It is the professional organisation for all those involved in the training and education of medical students, dental students, veterinary students, physician associates, doctors, dentists and veterinary surgeons. The Academy is the standard setting body for medical educators in the UK. Its Professional Standards define the level of competence that medical educators should achieve at each point in their careers. The Standards provide a recognised framework for professionals to demonstrate expertise in medical education through accreditation as a medical teacher. Recognition by AoME demonstrates skills and competence when applying for revalidation, promotion and approval as a trainer. The Academy has over 1100 members across the UK and beyond, who benefit from: access to a network of medical educators at every level of career progression; regular newsletters, mailings and updates via the online community; a programme of academic meetings and events, including the annual Calman Lecture and national conferences; Developing Medical Educators Group; AoME awards and prizes, and support in applications for national and local awards.

The deadline for abstract submission is 5PM (GMT) 24 February 2022.

Information about the conference is on our website.   In addition, for 2022 we will be hosting a conference dinner the evening prior on 14 June.  This will be a fantastic opportunity to catch up and develop networks, something we have all missed with virtual events.
