Screening - it's complicated. The science, evidence and practice of screening for disease.

Come and discuss the complexities amd controversies of screening, dilemmas and politics - from newborn testing to prostate cancer. When is screening useful, harmful, or cost effective - and how is what the NHS decided?

This will be a masterclass with expert speakers and discussants including the leading public health physician Dr Angela Raffle. We are also delighted to welcome Richard Foggo, Co-Director of Population Health with the Scottish Government; Dr Tasmin Somerfield, National Clinical Advisor/Deputy Director of Screening, NHS National Services Scotland; and Dr Emily Postan, Senior Lecturer and Chancellor’s Fellow in Bioethics at University of Edinburgh. In addition, there will be multi-disciplinary expert speakers from University of St Andrews. We intend this to be useful to people who are new to screening, want to know more about it, and who are already knowledgeable but want to think about new dilemmas that technology has brought us. We hope that people at the start, middle and in later careers working in and around healthcare, as well as those working in policy, journalism and are patient advocates will join us.
