RCPE Ophthalmology for Medics
Course/event description
Overview
This focused half-day online course provides practical guidance on recognising and assessing common and potentially serious ophthalmic presentations encountered in general medical practice.
Led by expert ophthalmologists, the programme will cover key presentations including red eye, visual loss, diplopia and anisocoria, alongside how systemic disease can present with ocular signs. The course will highlight important red-flag symptoms and practical approaches to assessment in clinical settings.
Delegates will also gain practical ward-based examination tips, including visual acuity assessment, visual fields, pupil examination and fundoscopy, helping clinicians feel more confident assessing eye problems in acute and ward environments.
The event concludes with an Ask the Expert session with Dr Colin Goudie, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinical Lead (NHS Lothian & NHS Borders).
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for medical trainees and clinicians working in general medicine or acute care, as well as nurses, allied health professionals and medical students who wish to strengthen their confidence in assessing ophthalmic presentations.
Catch-up access
All registered delegates will receive access to the recordings within three working days of the live event, available to view for 28 days after the event.
