Enhanced monitoring

Enhanced Monitoring is a General Medical Council (GMC) process, whereby the GMC provides support to Deaneries to improve the quality of training in a training environment under circumstances where normal Deanery processes are unlikely to enable sites to meet the requirements of the GMC’s standards.

There are two main elements of the Enhanced Monitoring process: 1) more frequent review of the data, information and intelligence relating to the training, and 2) more frequent Quality Management-Quality Improvement visits (usually 6-12monthly) with a panel that often includes representatives from the GMC.

The enhanced monitoring process and the issues that necessitate escalation to enhanced monitoring are described in the Scotland Deanery process on Enhanced Monitoring.
